Best Five Things in Cannes 2014

There are so many things to admire about the fest – but here are my top 5 favorite moments/stuff!

I always heard that if you have never been to the Cannes Film Festival, then you’re truly missing out as a film fan. Well, this turned out to be perfectly true. It was my first trip to the Croisette this year and I’ve already started planning to free up my schedule next year.

There are so many things to admire about the fest – but here are my top 5 favorite moments/stuff!

1- The films
Worldwide premieres were held every day and there were hugely anticipated films that I managed to see. People line up at least 2 hours before every show to catch the movie – amazing dedication! My favorite films were Foxcatcher, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Two Days One Night, Mommy and the Palme d’or winner Winter Sleep.

2- The SFC!
The Short Film Corner is your place to be if you’re a short filmmaker. Not only did they have an amazing digital library where you can see lots of short films but there were tons of short film workshops with big shots – including the Vimeo VP discussing short film distribution online.

3- The daily papers
I just loved this – every day The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Screen Daily published daily papers with tons of film reviews, fest news and exclusive interviews. Teams from the 3 magazines were available on the Croisette to distribute these daily for FREE.

4- The market
The real deals were always made at the Cannes film market – the market had every film organization present there and distributors were buzzing with film negotiations and some big deals were made – including the new Amy Adams film – sold at a record & hefty 20 million!

5- The re-runs!

Being a film fan (freak!) like me, I just loved the re-run program at the fest – on the last 4 days of the fest, all the films were repeated for those who missed it – this immensely helped me catch up on films I missed – and I was able to see 12 films by the end of the festival (and I loved them!)
