So universal yet so Arab: From A to B

From A to B, tells the story of a 2,500 kilometer, three day journey filled with obstacles, adventures and often hilarious results.

A good film takes you on a journey. Whether that journey is internal to a character, or takes you across countries or even across time, it doesn’t really matter so long as the film’s starting point and end point differ in a meaningful way.

From A to B, tells the story of a 2,500 kilometer, three day journey filled with obstacles, adventures and often hilarious results. In the film, three young Arab expats embark on a road trip from their home-city of Abu Dhabi to Beirut, after their best friend dies.

I shot the film over six weeks in October 2013 at interesting locations in Abu Dhabi, Oman, Jordan and Lebanon.

Since, I received world-wide acclaim for filmmaking debut City of Life; I was able to secure cameos from leading stars in the Arab world.

I’ve been looking for the right follow up after the success of City of Life, and From A to B was perfect – it has an appeal that will transcend borders. It’s very exciting to be working with Mohamed Hefzy, who wrote the script, and Paul Baboudjian. Mohammed Al Turki’s support was also instrumental. We all shared a special experience developing the film, when Paul, Hefzy, and I undertook this road-trip just like the film’s protagonists.

Part of twofour54’s mission is to drive the development of creative industries in the UAE and the region. As a local talented filmmaker, we aspire to build a world-class film industry, generating international exposure for both the individuals and the UAE as a whole.

I appreciate twofour54 for supporting the development of this film and Image Nation for co-financing it – they are responsible for turning this idea into a reality..

I hope the film From A to B is tipped to receive international acclaim because it manages to be thoughtful and compelling while still making the audience laugh. The film hits the screens this winter so don’t miss the chance of joining the three young men on their journey.
